The JULES technology was successfully applied to a VSE batch and CICS online system at Cara Foods in Toronto. The monthly maintenance cost of supporting VSE was greatly reduced once moved to the Windows server. The CICS CSP code was converted to COBOL by PrinceSoftware, and then further converted to run in the Jules Windows environment. The JCL used by batch jobs remained, in most part, unchanged. CICS maps are slightly modified, so the 3270 screen data can be mapped to an equivalent Windows based GUI environment. In addition to support costs, the batch processing elapsed time saw performance improvements. The VSAM database and SAM files are emulated using a relational database, and could potential be converted to use standard SQL after conversion.
The JULES technology was successfully applied to a Unix based Order Entry and Warehouse management system. Besides providing a good maintenance environment and an improved operational structure, it achieved significant performance improvements over the previous operational environment.
