The Transformation portion of the AltCode COBOL application services uses the SQL compliant database created during the Inventory phase in conjunction with the application source code and performs further analysis of the application.
Depending on the target, customized routines can be developed to make the rewriting of applications less manual, thereby eliminating the potential for errors. One usage is to define the boundaries for business logic code and detailing the input parameters and output fields. Under some circumstances it is possible to use the AltCode COBOL emulator functions to maintain some complex logic in COBOL and still interface cleanly and efficiently with the rewritten system.
